Long bio
Dr. Marie Claire Bourque is a psychiatrist who has spent her career where the pressure is highest. From 2018 to 2026 she was Director of Mental Health for an NHL organization and its development affiliate, and she was one of three people who established the league's mental health minimum standards.
She started in exercise science, with an Honours BSc in Kinesiology and an MSc in Kinesiology (Biomechanics), before training in psychiatry at Dalhousie. She has also led physicians: she served as President of a 1,200-physician medical staff association, sat on the Board of the Canadian Psychiatric Association, and received the Royal College's Kristin Sivertz Resident Leadership Award.
Today she practices psychiatry with Interior Health in Kelowna and runs a referral-based virtual practice in British Columbia. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary's Cumming School of Medicine and a Clinical Instructor at UBC. She founded Limbus Health and co-authored The Psychology of High-Performance Sports Organizations (Routledge, 2026).
